The “World of Winners” Tickets Giveaway Campaign sponsored by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) will be launched on 1 March 2023.Around 500,000 air tickets will be given away to travellers in major passenger markets in support of the Government’s global promotions, with a view to expediting the recovery of the aviation and tourism industries.
The majority of the 500,000 tickets will be given away in phases by three home-based airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Express and Hong Kong Airlines, through their respective channels in major passenger markets.
The giveaway will start in Southeast Asia markets on 1 March 2023, followed by the Mainland, Northeast Asia and other markets, continuing for about six months. The airlines’ marketing and promotion will begin in late February.
Inbound passengers who win the giveaway tickets will also enjoy special offers on hotel accommodation, shopping and entertainment offered by business partners who join the promotional activities.
Jack So, Chairman of AAHK said, “We bought the tickets from the airlines during the most difficult time under the pandemic, and that is a testament to our confidence in the future of Hong Kong’s aviation industry. The campaign will generate a multiplier effect on boosting air traffic and enormous publicity for Hong Kong. Since the relaxation of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for inbound travellers last year, passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has started to pick up, especially in the last quarter. We also have had a good start of 2023 with the resumption of normal travel with the Mainland. HKIA has always been a major international aviation hub. We are confident that passenger traffic will continue to rise.”ADVERTISEMENT“World of Winners” Tickets Giveaway Campaign: https://wow.hongkongairport.com/tickets

Finavia to Invest Over EUR 15 Million in Upgrading Airports for Improved Sustainability and Safety

This year, airport company Finavia will invest more than EUR 15 million in the renovation of runways at the Helsinki Airport, Kuopio Airport and Kuusamo Airport. Some of the money will be spent on water protection and energy efficiency. Sustainable development projects are also underway at several airports. In total, environmental investments will rise to nearly EUR 10 million.
“In the runway renovation projects, our goal is to improve the smoothness and safety of air traffic, and to improve water protection and save electricity. Water protection is important because, by improving the control of stormwater flowing from runways, it is possible to protect the microbiota in the ditches and streams in the vicinity of airports,” says Henri Hansson, an SVP of Finavia.
Finavia’s infrastructure investments in 2023 will total more than EUR 15 million, of which approximately EUR 4 million will be allocated to environmental work. Runways will be renovated at the airports of Helsinki, Kuopio and Kuusamo.
In addition to infrastructure investments, Finavia will also spend more than EUR 5 million on sustainable development projects at Helsinki Airport, Turku Airport and Pori Airport.
At Helsinki Airport, the northern end of runway 2 (15/33), the transverse runway, will be renovated. The work will start in May and be completed by the beginning of September.ADVERTISEMENTThe renovation will affect the landing directions at the airport, as it will not be possible to land on runway 2 during the renovation. In May–August, landings from the direction of Nurmijärvi will decrease and landings from the direction of Northeast Vantaa and Kerava will increase. Propeller aircraft will take off from runway 2 in the direction of Tikkurila as usual. The parallel runways 1 and 3 will be available as usual, which means that the renovation will not affect passenger or air traffic.
In addition to improving the stormwater sewer system, Finavia will also renovate the electrical systems under the runway and the runway surface. The total investment this year will be EUR 8 million.
The renovation will continue during the summer of 2024, when the southern end of the runway will be renovated and the navigation and air navigation equipment will be replaced.
No effect on flights from Kuopio Airport’s runway renovations
At Kuopio Airport, Finavia is renovating stormwater sewers and taxiways E and F, and continuing the renovation of the electricity network that began last year. Finavia will invest EUR 5 million in Kuopio Airport this year.
The work will start in May and be completed by the beginning of September. The airport will be open and operating flights will be possible the whole time. The renovation will not affect air traffic.
Kuopio Airport’s runway renovations will be completed in autumn 2024.
Air traffic at Kuusamo Airport to be paused between 17 July and 15 August
At Kuusamo Airport, Finavia will renovate the runway lighting system and apron surface. Existing light fittings will be replaced with LED light fittings, which will reduce electricity consumption. The investment is worth EUR 2.5 million.
Due to the renovation of the runway and apron, there will be a four-week break in flights to and from Kuusamo Airport, as the runway cannot be used during the work. The break will start on 17 July and last until 15 August. From 16 August 2023, Kuusamo Airport will be open as usual. The renovated infrastructure will serve the air traffic of the autumn and upcoming Christmas season even more smoothly.
EUR 5 million of sustainable development projects at Helsinki Airport, Turku Airport and Pori Airport
Finavia has several sustainability projects underway throughout Finland. These projects amount to about EUR 5 million. The main focus is promoting water protection at Helsinki Airport, Turku Airport and Pori Airport, in addition to which all airports are working to reduce carbon emissions.
“Our new sustainability programme guides our investment decisions and operations towards sustainable air travel. Reducing carbon emissions and preserving biodiversity are important to us, and we will also take this into account in this summer’s renovations,” Henri Hansson says.

Emirates Group seals agreement with Dubai Municipality to manage Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

The Emirates Group has renewed its agreement with Dubai Municipality for the management of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR), in its continuous commitment to preserving wildlife and protecting natural habitats. As custodian of the reserve for over 20 years, the Emirates Group is charged with its full operations and funding of its efforts to nurture the fragile ecosystem of the UAE, in addition to research and education programs.
With Dubai’s rapid pace of development and urbanisation over the past two decades, the DDCR was borne out of the Dubai Government’s commitment to preserving the emirate’s unique desert habitat and biodiversity. The reserve is the UAE’s first national park, spanning an area of 225 square kilometres which is roughly 5% of the total land area of Dubai.
Signing the agreement on behalf of Emirates Group, Ali Mubarak Al Soori, Executive Vice President – Facilities, Projects Management & Group Procurement & Supply Chain said: “At the core of Emirates’ Group strategic goals is our commitment to sustainability and protecting the precious environment that we operate in. Since the establishment of DDCR in 2002, the Emirates Group has supported this important initiative by operating the reserve and managing its vast facilities on behalf of the Government of Dubai. The UAE has declared 2023 the Year of Sustainability, and we are proud to continue playing a role in achieving the nation’s sustainability goals.”

Commenting on the renewed management agreement, Engineer Alya Abdulrahim Alharmoudi, Acting CEO – Environment, Health & Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, added: “Our collaboration with Emirates Airline to preserve and manage the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (Al Maha) demonstrates the significant role of public-private partnerships in promoting the sustainable development of natural reserves. It also reflects the Municipality’s commitment to efficiently coordinate with all its partners in order to further boost the economy. This agreement plays a vital role in preserving the diversity of environmental and natural reserves, as well as strengthening wildlife conservation, which is essential for the development of tourism and environmental sectors in the Emirate of Dubai as well as the UAE. At Dubai Municipality, we are committed to fostering sustainability in the natural and desert reserves by carrying out research operational plans and studies. This will contribute to conserving their ecological diversities in a sustainable manner and highlight their relevance as significant tourist attractions for wildlife and desert safaris.”ADVERTISEMENTThe Emirates Group has invested more than AED 28 million in the reserve since its establishment in 2002, to fund and support the conservation of the natural desert landscape and its indigenous fauna and flora. The protected inland desert habitat is currently home to over 560 different species of plants and trees, birds, mammals, reptiles and arthropods – more than double the original 150 indigenous species which thrived in the area prior to DDCR’s efforts. The reserve’s effective management strategies have helped promote the natural processes that lead to rewilding of the desert habitat and its rehabilitation.
By protecting Dubai’s valuable desert ecosystems, Emirates has also made it possible for the DDCR to provide an authentic desert experience for visitors through carefully managed and monitored tours. Funding from the Emirates Group and limited tour operations at the DDCR also enables the reserve to conduct scientific research, collect data, and develop new technologies necessary for its management, in addition to rolling out education programs designed to enrich the visitor experience.

The sustainable tourism offering allows visitors from around the world to experience spectacular dune drives, desert safaris and traditional Arabian experiences while gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the desert’s natural habitat, heritage and wildlife, and the importance of conservation. A new Desert Visitor Centre is currently being developed to further enhance the educational experience for guests of the reserve.
The DDCR operates under the supervision of the Dubai Conservation Board (DCB) which is chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. Since the inception of the DDCR, the reserve has been immensely successful in growing the population of sand gazelles, Arabian gazelles and the Arabian onyx, from 230 initially to over 1,300 today. A further 171 Arabian Oryx have been relocated to other protected areas in the UAE. Also amongst its other milestone achievements are the re-introduction of 2,800 Houbara, or Macqueen’s Bustard, which roam freely within the safe environment of the reserve. In excess of 31,000 native trees flourish in the vast area, which include the Ghaf tree, native to the desert and known for its ability to survive its extreme climate conditions without irrigation.

Founder And Chef, Costas Spiliadis Opens The Doors To estiatorio Milos At Atlantis The Royal

Recognised as one of the finest Greek Mediterranean restaurants in the world, estiatorio Milos by acclaimed chef Costas Spiliadis, will officially open its doors this week on Friday 10th February at the newly launched, ultra-luxury resort, Atlantis The Royal. Originating in Montreal in 1979 and with outposts in New York, Athens, Las Vegas, Miami and London, the sophisticated restaurant offers the elegant simplicity of dining seaside in Greece.
A famous Greek Poet Odysseas Elytis once said, ‘if you deconstruct Greece, in the end what is left is an olive tree, a vineyard and a fishing boat’. In that essence, Milos is transporting that authentic Greek feeling to diners in Dubai. In many ways the story of Milos goes back millennia and is far more than an exquisite meal. It encompasses that time honoured virtue of hospitality or, Philoxenia. When Milos first opened its doors, it was to welcome guests to an experience that embraced dining as an act of sharing. Estiatorio Milos was founded around the Greek concept of philoxenia or “friend to a stranger;” caring for all guests with warmth and generosity. Spiliadis envisioned every guest experiencing the feeling of generosity through the sharing nature of the food. Milos dishes are not based on the best ingredients that the land and sea have to offer. The preparation of the fish is in the subtlest, simplest, and most flavourful of ways, in keeping with nature and the philoxenia concept.

The seafood market is the centrepiece of all Milos restaurants displaying the freshest catch from across the Mediterranean. Guests are taken to the market and create their own dining experience choosing their menu with the help and guidance of experienced Milos Chefs. Diners can also enjoy, Milos “my sisters olive oil”, Greek thyme honey from the island of Kythira, family harvested sea salt and an array of fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from local Greek partners cultivated over generations.
ADVERTISEMENTSignature dishes at Milos include the Milos special, a tower of paper-thin, crispy fried zucchini and eggplant slices over rich, house-made tzatziki and Greek saganaki cheese, creating a perfectly balanced entree. Milos must-tries, are the grilled octopus and the tomato salad, these two signature dishes promise to deliver a taste from the sea and Greece like no other dish does. Simple and minimal, two characteristics of the Milos philosophy, these are served fresh to the table. The showstopping astakos, which is a beloved classic with a Milos twist, features a fresh, meaty, and succulent whole lobster sautéed in traditional Greek spirit amber metaxa, which is then carefully placed on top of a bed of fresh pasta in a light tomato sauce. The result is a stunningly beautiful and Instagram worthy dish where pasta is served in between the lobster head and tail.  A table extravaganza is the whole fish sashimi, where guests are granted total personalisation by selecting their own fresh fish from the “Fish Market”, before having it intricately prepared as a sashimi, ceviche or tartare.

Guests can also enjoy a vast selection of mostly Greek and Mediterranean wine, with over 300 bottles available. Milos’ wine programme is focused on offering the finest Greek wines and varieties all over Greece, one of the oldest wine producing countries in the world.  The meticulously curated cocktail menu perfectly complements Milos’ fresh Mediterranean gastronomy.  Milos’ cocktail menu is based on the foundation and philosophy of Milos in a modern sophisticated style complemented by Earth’s raw materials such as olives, lemon and other seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Costas Spiliadis comments, “The Middle East, specifically Dubai, has been on our radar for some time.  Dubai has become a premier culinary and hospitality destination; with the world’s most talented chefs and well-regarded brands represented.  Atlantis The Royal is an ideal partner in our efforts to expose the world to Greek cuisine, highlighting the most exquisite ingredients and classic preparations. I am thrilled to open the doors and have Dubai sample the flavours of Greece.”
Timothy Kelly, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Atlantis Resorts and Residences comments: “We are thrilled to welcome estiatorio Milos to the Atlantis family and we’re looking forward to sharing one of the world’s finest Greek restaurants with Dubai. Providing the perfect spot to watch the fountain performances at the heart of the property, this beautiful restaurant will become a destination in its own right. We look forward to Costas Spiliadis joining the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Nobu Matsuhisa, Heston Blumenthal, Gastón Acurio, José Andrés and Ariana Bundy, further enhancing the Atlantis’s positioning as the culinary destination in the region”.

Costas Spiliadis, founder of estiatorio Milos, first arrived in New York in 1966 from his native Patras, a port city near the ancient Greek village of Olympia. In 1979, he opened the first location of estiatorio Milos in Montreal. Milos rapidly became one of the city’s most influential dining destinations, introducing new tastes and culinary experiences, and known for the quality and simplicity of ingredients and preparations.  Following his great success in Montreal, Spiliadis opened a second location of estiatorio Milos in 1997 in New York City, working directly with a curated group of Greek fishermen on the island of Kythera to cast their lines into the Mediterranean every midnight to provide the freshest products for his guests. Spiliadis’ vision came full circle when, in 2004, estiatorio Milos opened in Athens, in accordance with the Winter Olympics in Greece, quickly expanding to Las Vegas in 2010, Miami in 2012, and London in 2015. estiatorio Milos will open a second New York location in March 2019 as part of the Hudson Yards development project on the west side of Manhattan.

estiatorio Milos is open daily for Lunch and Dinner 12pm until 11pm and the bar remains open later into the evening. ALL LEGOLAND® RESORTS IN NORTH AMERICA TO BECOME CERTIFIED AUTISM CENTERS™ BY SPRING 2023

LEGOLAND® Resorts believe awesome is for everyone! Today, LEGOLAND® California, LEGOLAND® Florida, and LEGOLAND® New York Resorts proudly declare that all Parks will become Certified Autism Centers™ (CAC) by spring 2023.The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) granted LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND California with autism certification in 2022. LEGOLAND Florida’s three onsite hotels, as well as Peppa Pig Theme Park, just steps away from LEGOLAND, are also all Certified Autism Centers™. IBCCES is the only credentialing organization providing this type of certification, which includes evidence-based training as well as the perspectives of autistic individuals. In addition, the organization provides resources such as onsite reviews and customized recommendations, and renewal requirements to ensure LEGOLAND Resorts have the tools and support that can make a lasting impact for all guests.
Merlin’s newest North American Park, LEGOLAND New York, will officially become a CAC when it reopens for the 2023 season on March 31. All Resorts worked with IBCCES to train and certify staff in sensory, environmental, and emotional awareness – ensuring families can build a bricktastic vacation and make unforgettable memories.
“LEGOLAND Resorts are designed to inspire creativity amongst children of all abilities – our rides, experiences and entertainment all foster a child’s imagination through a lens of belonging.” says Merlin Entertainments CEO Scott O’Neil. “With 1 in 44 children diagnosed with autism in the U.S.A., we want to build understanding and empathy while also ensuring our teams have the tools and support strategies when engaging with a neurodiverse population. Through this certification, we’re providing our guests with more opportunities to create and play their way, while supporting parents through every step of the vacation planning journey.”
Here’s what families can expect as part of the new LEGOLAND Resorts experience:
Trained front-line team members equipped to better assist autistic guests or those with other sensory sensitivities.Pre-planning resources available for guests on the Resorts’ websites.Across the three Resorts, every ride will have a posted sensory guide developed by IBCCES indicating whether there are bright lights, loud sounds, or any features that guests might need to plan around. Rating each attractions’ sensory levels – touch, taste, sound, sight, and smell – makes it easier for families to plan activities that align with their needs and accommodations. On the guides, there is a Park map marked with low-traffic areas for visitors in need of a low-sensory break area.Low sensory areas allow guests with certain sensitivities to take a break and relax in a less stimulating environment. From 1- 2 p.m. at LEGOLAND California, their newest attraction, LEGO® Ferrari Build & Race, all sound effects are turned off for families looking for a less overwhelming experience.LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND New York offer quiet rooms dedicated to children with varying sensory needs – where guests can decompress with weighted blankets, dim lighting, and tactile toys.Upon request, First Aid offers ear plugs to assist with sound and overstimulation and “Assisted Access Passes” can be requested at Guest Services.“IBCCES is honored to work with all LEGOLAND® Parks in North America to make sure autistic and sensory-sensitive guests and their families can make treasured memories and enjoy all the amazing experiences LEGOLAND has to offer,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman. “Our programs will provide long-term support with ongoing training and other supports to the Resorts in achieving their objective of providing accessible options for all visitors.”ADVERTISEMENTCurrent sensory guides and resources can be found here: https://www.legoland.com/california/media/b1oahwwa/llcr-sensory-guide.pdf, https://www.legoland.com/florida/media/g4ffsjti/22-llfr-sensory-guide-theme-park.pdf, and https://www.legoland.com/new-york/plan-your-visit/know-before-you-go/certified-autism-center/
