5 Days to Go: World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony

Only five days remain until the prestigious World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony lights up the stunning surroundings of the Johari Rotana in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday, 28 June 2025.

Johari Rotana Hotel

As the sun rises over the Indian Ocean, this five-star venue—part of the iconic MNF Square development—will host the region’s most celebrated travel and tourism luminaries in a spectacular evening of recognition and glamour.

The event opens at 19:00 with a networking cocktail reception, followed by a gala dinner and awards ceremony at 20:00, culminating at 23:00. Attendees will arrive in black-tie elegance or national dress, with nominees, decision-makers, and influencers from across Africa and the Indian Ocean gathering to honour excellence in hospitality, tourism, and travel innovation.

Tanzania Takes Centre Stage
Hosting the ceremony in Dar es Salaam underscores Tanzania’s growing stature as a regional tourism powerhouse. From iconic Serengeti safaris and the white sands of Zanzibar to the towering majesty of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the country offers an unmatched tapestry of beauty and high-end hospitality.

“Tanzania’s selection as host reflects its rapid ascent in economic contribution and visitor appeal,” said Graham Cooke, Founder of World Travel Awards.

Although voting for the Africa & Indian Ocean categories closed on 4 May, anticipation remains high. This year’s shortlist includes top airlines, luxury resorts, conservation initiatives, and tourism services that have shaped the region’s global presence.

Nominees range from leading carriers such as Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines to world-renowned destinations including Zanzibar, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and the Serengeti.

“For many, recognition at the WTA Gala is more than an accolade; it’s a milestone that elevates global credibility and appeal.”
