Hilton has today appointed globally respected luxury hospitality leader Marlene Poynder as General Manager of the upcoming Waldorf Astoria Sydney, set to open in 2027. Marking the debut of the iconic Waldorf Astoria brand in Australia, the highly anticipated property will be located at One Circular Quay, one of Sydney’s most prestigious harbourfront addresses overlooking the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Marlene brings more than 30 years of international luxury hospitality experience across the United States, Asia and Australasia, having led some of the world’s most celebrated hotels including Waldorf Astoria Beijing and Chicago, Conrad New York Downtown, and Park Hyatt Sydney. Most recently, she served as Managing Director of The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel in New York.
In her new role, Marlene will oversee the hotel’s pre-opening strategy, including team development, operational readiness and the shaping of Waldorf Astoria Sydney’s distinctive luxury service culture ahead of its launch.
“Australia represents a compelling opportunity within our growth strategy, with Sydney, one of the world’s most iconic harbour cities, offering a natural platform for Waldorf Astoria,” said Candice D’Cruz, Vice President, Hilton Luxury Brands, Asia Pacific. “Marlene’s return home brings both global perspective and deep local connection, strengthening our leadership as we shape the next chapter of luxury hospitality in the region.”
Waldorf Astoria Sydney is set to introduce the brand’s signature hallmarks of highly personalised service, refined design and world-class culinary experiences, setting a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in Australasia.
